Technology and Training
NS&V applies cutting-edge technology and tools when designing and installing sound systems for our clients. Using precise installation instruments, we can aim sound exactly where it should go to avoid putting excess sound energy onto the walls and ceiling. This makes it possible to provide even coverage, avoid feedback, maximize speech intelligibility and provide clarity of speech even in a reverberant space.

Computer Design Assistance

NS&V is professionally trained and experienced in computer aided sound system design. We start with a thorough analysis of your needs, taking into consideration future plans and the acoustics of the room in question. Each project is handled with individual attention to all details. An EASE (Electro Acoustic Simulator for Engineers) computer model is created with respect to elements such as building layout, construction materials, ceiling heights, etc. This model allows us to simulate the unique acoustic environment inside your buildings presentation area. The speakers from your newly designed sound system are then placed into this virtual environment, enabling us to check the interaction between the two. This information also helps us to consult on the possible need for acoustical treatments, and work with architects and contractors to meet your specific needs for the presentation space.

RT60 (Reverberation/Frequency) - In very simple terms, reverberation is how long sound energy remains in a room at various frequencies after the original source of the sound is no longer present. The amount of reverb in a room will directly affect spoken word intelligibility and the performance of the sound system speakers. The computer model gives us the predicted RT60 times of a room, which allows us to determine if different speakers, or acoustical treatments may be needed for acceptable speech intelligibility to be achieved.

Sound Pressure Level (SPL) - One of the desired goals of a good sound system design is coverage of the seating areas that is perceived as smooth and even. This chart can show us the predicted volume or energy levels of the speakers at any seat, and at various frequencies.

Speaker Clarity and Acoutics
Articulation Loss of Consonants (ALCons) - How clear and understandable spoken word is when delivered from the speakers is critical to the success of the sound system design. The acoustics of the room along with the performance of the speakers are what determines the results. In our opinion this is one of the most important criteria that can be predicted by the model.

Other Design and Testing Tools

AutoCAD - NS&V uses AutoCAD as a tool for documentation of the design, "As-Built" equipment layout, signal flow, wiring and labeling of a system.

TEF Graph
Creating the perfect Acoustical Environment

TEF and RTA are used to analyze the "live" acoustical environment. This allows us to remove feedback causing frequencies when adjusting a sound system, create a natural sound, and consult on the possible need for acoustical treatments.
